Green Marketing

Plankton Power
This start-up had an innovative method of converting algae into biofuel, but its lack of an online presence was hurting its credibility and visibility. I designed a website that put Plankton Power on the map, including writing original content and creating a unique design that conveys the founder's vision of how plankton-derived fuels can change the world. I continue to work with PP and its partners, including the Marine Biological Laboratory and the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute to spread the word about the company to potential funders, thought leaders, and political powerhouses through strategic media contact and press releases.

Boloco
Boloco is known for its inexpensive, healthy, flavorful burritos and smoothies, but what its customers didn't know was that it's also an extremely green restaurant. In fact, it's the only fast casual restaurant in the state of Massachusetts to be certified by the Green Restaurant Association. I work with the C.E.O and C.O.O. to develop and implement green marketing plans that complement the restaurant's existing campaigns and strategy and enhance its brand, so that consumers have yet another reason to eat there. I've also developed an employee training module that helps staff understand the hows and whys of Boloco's sustainable practices so they can both comply with them and knowledgeably answer customers' questions.

Boston GreenFest
In 2009, I managed ad sales for the program guide for this impressive event, including contacting potential supporters across New England, upgrading existing supporters to higher levels, and handling the collection and delivery of advertisements to the program designer. Planning for 2010 is now underway, and I will continue to consult on fundraising and marketing for the next GreenFest, coming up in August.

Law of Earth
The founder of LoE contacted me prior to launching the website for this unique carbon trading marketplace, asking me to craft the language that would explain his business and define his brand in a succinct and compelling way. As the site expands, we will be working together to create sales materials for a variety of strategically targeted audiences.

Conscious Elegance
I worked directly with the owner of this green wedding/couture business to promote her products around the world. We focused on generating media attention through compelling, targeted press releases. It worked - in 2007, Conscious Elegance was named the Environmental Business of the Year by the UK's Evening Chronicle and the Environment Agency.

General Communications

Dana Farber Cancer Institute
From 2005 to 2008, I served as project manager for a significant portion of DFCI's Annual Report, which is published each March in the Institute's magazine, Paths of Progress.

Mad Oyster Studios
The Mad Oyster houses the studios of 19 artists who work in a variety of media, but until April of 2009, they had no web presence. I worked with them to create MadOysterStudios.org, a website showcasing the work of each of the artists, giving both them and the studio an online presence.

Rachel Mello, Visual Artist and Arts Educator
A local artist who teaches in Boston and shows her work nationally, Rachel is often too busy working to post her many shows and awards on her website. We work together to make sure that whenever she's got news to share, her patrons and art lovers can find out about it on her website. In addition to making timely updates, I work hard to make sure that Rachel's voice comes through in every post.

Emperor Norton’s Stationary Marching Band
Part gypsy band, part vaudeville troupe, ENSMB's challenge has been to explain who they are without limiting themselves, the better to recruit performers and entice audiences. To this end, I've developed a comprehensive media plan including a schedule, editable templates, and a database of appropriate media outlets to reach out to.

Improv for Life
I consulted with the founder of this small business to increase client recruitment, and have helped him reach out to new audiences using compelling copy and design in both print and online media.
